The Department triumphed once again after the Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental RTC found an upset husband, who burned his house and two neighboring houses, guilty of simple arson.
In a 4-page decision, the Court sentenced Jerrylou Gomolon to serve the indeterminate penalty of eight years and one day of prision mayor, as minimum, to 16 years and one day of reclusion temporal as maximum.
After a marital spat, Gomolon set to fire his own house, unintentionally razing that of his two neighbors as well. Despite his denials and alibi, an eyewitness positively identified him as the perpetrator.
Justice Secretary Emmanuel L. Caparas praised the Dumaguete City Prosecutor’s Office. “Crimes, may it be simple or complex, should be prosecuted justly and fairly,” Secretary Caparas said. “The scales of justice should not be tipped,” the Secretary further added.
