Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla applauded the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for bringing to justice an Australian drug trafficker and a member of the notorious Mexican Sinaloa drug cartel.

This, after operatives of the BI Fugitive Search Unit ((FSU) arrested 46-year-old high-profile fugitive Gregor Johann Haas last May 15 in Bogo, Cebu following a red notice by the Interpol.  The red notice stemmed from a criminal complaint filed by Indonesian authorities accusing Haas of attempting to smuggling drugs hidden in floor ceramic from Guadalajara, Mexico into Indonesia.

"Haas' arrest is a direct result of our law enforcement's dedication to securing our borders and safeguarding our communities," Secretary Remulla declared.

“The apprehension of this high-profile fugitive sends a clear message: those who violate our laws and threaten public safety will be brought to justice,”  the Secretary warned.

“Let this be a constant reminder that the Philippines is neither a haven nor sanctuary for foreign fugitives,” added Remulla.

The Secretary praised the BI men and women, “I congratulate you for your hard work and dedication in ensuring Haas’ recent apprehension and his deportation, the soonest.”

Haas is currently detained at the BI Warden Facility in Camo Bagong Diwa, Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
