The Department of Justice announced today that the action plan to resolve issues and cases that affect the energy sector is now in motion. The legal cluster is composed of the legal group of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corporation (PSALM), the energy division of the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel (OGCC) and the Office of the Secretary of Justice.
“We have identified 111 cases and prioritized them in terms of impact on the energy situation of the country,” said Secretary of Justice Jesus Crispin C. Remulla. “These will be systematically addressed with full transparency and in consultation with relevant agencies with the objective to ensure cheap and reliable power supply,” he said.
The PSALM handles the privatization of power assets and liabilities of National Power Corporation, among other functions, while the OGCC serves as its corporate counsel. The DOJ has included energy as one of the key areas that will be given preferential attention in the current administration.
“This will resolve longstanding issues in the power sector that disincentivize investments and help our fiscal situation. We urge stakeholders to work closely together under the rule of law framework,” said Secretary Remulla.
