Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” C. Remulla urged prosecutors to keep educating themselves with recent laws and jurisprudence to be more effective and efficient in their fields of concern.
This as the Department of Justice (DOJ) commenced today a free Mandatory Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) for its prosecutors.
The 5-day MCLE Convention which will run from July 15 to 19, 2024 at the University of the Philippines will be participated in by around 365 prosecutors from Regions 1, 2, 3, 4B, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 and 14.
Secretary Remulla underscored, “This activity will surely be of great significance to our prosecutors as they navigate recent laws and jurisprudence.”
“With all the legal complexities now and because laws are constantly changing, we really have to stay updated and grasp any shifts in our fields, the reason for this MCLE,” he added.
Presentations/discussions by experts include, among others, the 2019 Amendments to the Rules on Evidence, Prosecuting Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials (CSAEM), Gender Laws, Money Laundering, and Forfeiture in Criminal Cases.
The MCLE, citing Bar Matter 850 dated October 2, 2001 issued by the Supreme Court En Banc, requires all lawyers to undergo continuing legal education to keep them abreast with recent laws and jurisprudence, maintain ethics in their profession and enhance their standards in the practice of law. ###
