DOJ: first rollout of survivorship benefits to families of deceased retired prosecutors, successful

24 July 2024

The Department of Justice (DOJ) yesterday commenced the distribution of survivorship benefits to the first batch of families qualified to receive from their deceased retired prosecutor-relative contemplated under Republic Act (RA) No. 11643.

Undersecretary Fredderick A. Vida along with other DOJ officials paved the way for the Ceremonial Commencement of Receiving Survivorship Benefits for the 1st Batch of Qualified Beneficiaries under RA 11643 otherwise known as an Act Granting Survivorship Benefits to the Surviving Legitimate Spouse and Dependent Children of a Deceased Retired Member of the National Prosecution Service (NPS) and Appropriating Funds Therefor.

Around 25 qualified beneficiaries received their survivorship benefits covering the period January 1 to July 31, 2024 thru their respective ATMs.

“We always address our fellow workers in the DOJ as ‘family,’ justice dictates that we materialize the same by extending our respect, love and support to their orphaned family members. Our commitment to honoring our prosecutors goes beyond life, considering they have sacrificed so much in the administration of the criminal justice system,” Sec. Remulla emphasized.

To recall, the Implementing Rules and Regulations (IRR) of RA 11643 was also personally ratified by Secretary Remulla last 27 October 2023 which reflects the unwavering efforts of the current Marcos administration to provide an adequate and just compensation to government prosecutors whose duties and functions were filled with so much stress and risk.##
