SOJ Remulla lauds BuCor’s accomplishments: cites SHS graduation and release of PDLs

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla lauded the Bureau of Corrections’ (BuCor’s) accomplishments for the month of July 2022.

In a report submitted to Secretary Remulla, BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag enumerated Bucor’s accomplishments in July.

Among these feats was the holding of the first-ever Commencement Exercises of Senior High School at the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) Maximum Security Camp in Abuyog, Leyte.

A total of 53 Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) belonging to the Grade 12 – Class Makatao and Class Makadiyos were awarded diploma, certifying their completion of the program, including a 63-year-old PDL.

The graduation ceremony’s theme was: “K-12 Graduates: Pursuing Dreams and Fostering Resilience in the Face of Adversity.” The commencement address was delivered by Atty. Ryan D. Mancera, Chairman of the Regional Advisory Group for Police Transformation and Development – Region VIII and legal counsel for the Tacloban Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Inc.

Meanwhile, BuCor also reported that a total number of 377 PDLs were released for the month of July.

The number consists of the following: 118 paroled, 212 expired sentence, 43 acquitted, 2 granted probation and 2 dismissed.

Secretary Remulla earlier visited the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City.

During the visit, BuCor key officials briefed the Secretary about the Bureau’s ongoing programs and services. The Secretary also conducted an onsite inspection of the NBP’s Maximum Security Compound.
