South Korean Ambassador to the Philippines, Kim Jae-Shin paid a courtesy call to Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II last Friday, 08 July 2016 at the Department of Justice to discuss a host of concerns involving the almost 90,000 legally staying South Korean nationals in the country either as students or as employees.
Accompanied by Korean Embassy official Mr. Park Yong Jeung, Ambassador Kim also requested the immediate processing of cases of overstaying Korean detainees in Bicutan, Taguig. He, likewise, signified his intention to work closely with the Department of Justice to further cement Philippine-South Korea relations.
On the other hand, Secretary Aguirre assured the Ambassador that his office “will always be open for any assistance needed by the latter in the interest of upholding the rule of law for visiting Koreans.”
SOJ Aguirre also thanked Ambassador Kim for the assistance extended by the Korean government during the relief and rebuilding efforts after Typhoon Yolanda in the province of Leyte.
The parties ended the meeting with a mutual expression of willingness to work ”to further enhance Philippine and South Korean relations.“
