Statement of Justice Secretary Aguirre on the letter of the Promotion of Church People's Response letter request for the release of Bishop Carlo Morales and Pastor Kama L. Sanong

11 August 2017

Since I assumed stewardship of the DOJ, it has been our adopted policy and practice to give our prosecutors in the field a free hand in the discharge of their functions, particularly in the conduct of preliminary investigations and in the disposal of pending case.

                                                                                   - Justice Secretary Vitaliano N. Aguirre II

“Anent the  August 11, 2017 letter of Fr. Rolly de Leon, Co-Chairperson of the Promotion of Church People’s Response, we have instructed the National Prosecution Services (NPS) offices concerned to give us an update on the status of the cases referred to above. However, allow me to stress that since I assumed stewardship of the DOJ, it has been our adopted policy and practice to give our prosecutors in the field a free hand in the discharge of their functions, particularly in the conduct of preliminary investigations and in the disposal of pending cases. That principle will also be observed in the cases referred to in the PCPR letter.”
