13 March 2013

Secretary of Justice Leila M. De Lima today formally commended the National Bureau of Investigation Forensic Team for exemplary performance beyond the call of duty in response to the disaster brought about by typhoon "Pablo" that wrecked lives and destroyed properties in Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley.

"It is these men and women who continue to toil behind the scenes and yet delivering consistent and dedicated service that inspires all of us in government," said Secretary De Lima.

The primary role of the NBI in this tragedy was the identification of victims through forensic technology. Dr. Wilfredo E. Tierra, medico- legal officer, said in response, "We sincerely thank the Secretary for taking time out to send her message of support. We shall carry on and meet the challenges."

The NBI under the leadership of Director Nonnatus Caesar R. Rojas is upgrading its forensic capability and crime fighting technology of enforcement units under the DOJ Development Plan.

The same NBI Forensic Team was previously recognized by the Secretary of National Defense Voltaire T. Gazmin and Chairperson of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
