DOJ participates in the Civil Society Organization assessment
of the United Nations Joint Programme

08 March 2024

Undersecretary Jesse Hermogenes T. Andres engaged with the representatives of civil society organizations (CSOs), United Nations (UN) and diplomatic missions, and other duty-bearers in sustaining the gains and meeting the challenges encountered during the implementation of the UN Joint Programme (UNJP) on Human Rights in the Philippines. He also underscored the importance of the community as one of the pillars in the justice system.

Consequently, the CSOs participation is indispensable in the whole-of-nation apprach for the promotion and protection of human rights.

In turn, the CSOs received the proposal to establish a Human Rights Coordinating Council (HRCC) that will continue to enhance the implementation and monitoring of government policies and programs in the field of human rights.

This inclusive and multi-stakeholder approach under the HRCC is one of the Philippine Government's commitments given during the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration on Human Rights last 11-12 December 2023. This will also address the remaining CSO concerns raised during the assessment meeting.
