DOJ SIGNS MOA AGAINST EXTRA-JUDICIAL KILLINGS

A government created task force and a college of law school signed a MOA that will monitor cases on extra-judicial killings (EJK) to help in the resolution of executions through a system of monitoring and transparency.
Justice Undersecretary and “Task Force 211” head Ricardo Blancaflor and Lyceum of Philippines-College of Law Dean Pacifico Agabin inked an agreement “to become partners in the drive towards successful prosecution and resolution of cases of political and extra-judicial killings through a system of monitoring and transparency.”
The MOA provides that the Department’s prosecution offices nationwide shall disclose to accredited volunteer law students the specific status of the cases and to furnish progress report to the Task Force and the Department for information dissemination.
The Task Force is mandated to provide protection to the accredited volunteers when attending the hearings of assigned EJK. The volunteers shall receive reasonable transportation and food allowance for their actual attendance in the hearings/trials of cases.
The cases being monitored and their progress shall be made available, at all times upon request, to the task force or the concerned prosecutor for purposes of accurate information.
“Task Force 211” which adopted its name from Administrative Order 211 issued by the President is tasked to harness and mobilize government agencies, political groups, the religious, civil society and sectoral organizations and public for the prevention, investigation, prosecution and punishment of political violence, the care and protection of people and communities victimized and threatened with violence and the promotion of a culture opposed to violence and the advancement of reconciliation and peace.
