September 06, 2006
The DOJ panel expressed optimism that more truth will be uncovered from the last bunch of those who are responsible for the Guimaras oil spill tragedy.
Asked to appear on Friday at 10:00 a.m. (September 8, 2006), after subponaes were delivered personally are: the four (4) Japanese incorporators, three (3) crew members, and the Marina officials to finally shed light on the incident.
Usec. Ernesto Pineda said the Japanese nationals would likely to reveal the true history of the ill-fated, Solar1, as to the real date the ship was built. He doubts the initial information obtained from last Monday inquiry about the ship, including suspicion that the nationals have violated the anti-dummy law.
He believed the crew members who survived could give details as to what exactly the captain was doing at the very time the ship was in trouble. Report had it that he was asleep and some say he was drunk at the time the vessel was in a very compromising situation. “The crews are likely to tell the truth.” You know, ordinary and simple men are prone to tell the truth, provided they are not threatened,” he stressed.
Set to appear are: Mototsugu Yamaguchi, Hiroyasu Yamaguchi, Hiromi Irishika,- co incorporators of Sunshine Maritime Deve. Corp., The crews are Herminio Renger- radioman, Jesse Angel- pumpman, Reynaldo Torio- oiler.
The DOJ panel grilled last Monday at the DOJ a Petron official, a Filipino co-owner of Solar1, and the ship’s master. The vessel which was chartered by Petron to transport considerable tons of bunker oil bound for Zamboanga, sank last month. in Guimaras near Iloilo. It is estimated to have spilled thousand in liters of bunker oil. The owners have been placed under the immigration’s watchlist. Two crew members were reported to have perished in the country’s unprecedented oil spill.
Initial findings of the panel showed that civil and criminal liabilities are expected to be filed against those to be found responsible as soon as the probe is terminated .
