Another batch of Correctional system workers undergo TC training

A total of 37 participants from the Visayas and Mindanao regions of Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) undergone Therapeutic Community (TC) training, Modules 1 & 2 last June 16 - 27, 2003 at the Sarrosa International Hotel and Residential Suites in Cebu City.
The TC, a rehabilitation strategy adopted by the PPA for the reformation of its drug dependent clients was born in 1998 as a result of the Agency's effort in tapping the resources of the US State Department's International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Bureau through Daytop International, Inc.
The two week residential training also had 43 participants from other agencies such as Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD); National Bureau of Investigation (NBI); Bureau of Correction (BuCor); Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP); Philippine National Police (PNP); Dangerous Drugs Council; Cebu City Operation Second Chance Center; Office of Muslim Affairs (OMA); Muslim Associations; Private Hospitals and Rehabilitation Centers.
Modules 1 & 2 of the TC training focus on the basic and introductory facts about the program such as TC philosophy, history, morning meeting, its effectiveness and outcome treatment, behavioral shaping and management, intellectual/spiritual, vocational and survival skills and general meeting.
Resource persons during the training were TC experts from Daytop International, Inc. namely Associate Executive Director Frederick Loke, Michael Clifford and Elizabeth Alexander. NCR Regional Director and National TC Coordinator Ma. Dolores J. Nalumen, CPPO Grace Tomaro of R VI. SPPO Ma. Lourdes S. Guangco of R IX, Dr. Irene S. Lim of BJMP CO, SPPO Raquelito G. Rollan of R 7 and PPOII Rogelio V. Basilla, TC coordinator for R VII acted as facilitators.
At present a total of 4,181 clients of the Agency with drug and related cases participated in the TC program.
