MASS OATHTAKING OF PROBATION VOLUNTEERS HIGHLIGHTS

A Mass oathtaking of 150 Volunteer Probation Aides (VPAs) from the National Capital Region, Region III and Region IV highlights the 28th anniversary celebration of the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA) from July 18-24, 2004.
Under Presidential Decree No. 968 of 1976 otherwise known as the Adult Probation Law, VPAs are tasked to assist the probation officers in the supervision of the Agency clients.
The mass oathtaking which will be held at the closing program of the anniversary celebration will be officiated by Acting Justice Secretary Ma. Merceditas N. Gutierrez who is the guest of honor during the affair
Leading the VPAs is former PPA Administrator Gregorio F. Bacolod. He is the first retired former Administrator to become a VPA. Other VPAs include private citizens from the different fields of knowledge who all passed the screening process set by the national screening committee created by the Agency. The national committee is composed of Regional and Assistant Regional Directors, Chief Parole and Probation Officers and Probation and Parole Officers II.
Aside from the oath-taking, the anniversary celebration will kick-off with an opening program wherein streamers will be displayed and 28 balloons will be released to signify the 28th anniversary celebration.
A tiangge showcasing the products made by probationers will be opened by the PPA Officer-in-Charge Ismael J. Herradura. Invited guests during the cutting of ribbons and opening of the tiangge include Chief Public Attorney Percida Rueda-Acosta of Public Attorney’s Office (PAO), Administrator Benedicto Ulep of Land Registration Authority (LRA), Commissioner Carlos Ortega of the Commission on Settlement of Land Problems and Executive Director Reynaldo Bayang of the Board of Pardons and Parole (BPP).
Other activities during the anniversary celebration are the 3.5 kilometer Fun Run at the Quezon City Memorial Circle, mini-sportsfest consisting of indoor and outdoor games, conduct of medical services like blood-letting and free eye-examination for the employees, seminar/lecture on ecological waste management and volunteerism, fun cultural concert, tree planting and film showing.
