MWSS comitted to upholding government and customer interest
March 19, 2004
As regards certain media releases issued today by the Freedom from Debt Coalition and Bantay Tubig Network, the MWSS and its counsel, the Office of the Government Counsel of the Department of Justice, wishes to make of record that they welcome the request for a briefing and will schedule a meeting next week for this purpose.
However, MWSS objects to any insinuations being made, that the government is favoring any interested party or implying any neglect of duties by its officers as premature and without basis in fact. It should be noted that several of the issues raised are currently pending for resolution in the courts and therefore sub judice ( there is a pending petition for rehabilitation with the Regional Trial Court of Quezon City and issues relating to the draw on the letter of credit are pending with the Honorable Supreme Court).
As a government corporation, the MWSS is committed to serving the highest public good and foremost in its mind is the protection and preservation of services to Manila's water consuming public. It bears noting that the MWSS has consistently acted to uphold the government's financial interest in issuing a draw on the bond, proceeding and winning in arbitration, opposing the rehabilitation petition, and appealing to the Supreme Court. The MWSS assures the water consuming public that their interest is the highest concern of the Board of Trustees and the National Government.
