The OFFICE OF THE GOVERNMENT CORPORATE COUNSEL was founded on December 01, 1935 as a Government Counsel Division under the Department of Justice (DOJ). Todate, it has emerged as the premier law office of government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs), their subsidiaries, other corporate offsprings and government-acquired asset corporations.
Safeguarding the legal interest of all government-owned and controlled corporations, their subsidiaries, other corporate offsprings and government-acquired asset corporations
Provision of legal services to all government-owned and controlled corporations, their subsidiaries, other corporate offsprings and government-acquired asset corporations
- exercises control and supervision over all legal departments or divisions of client corporations as mandated by EO 292 or the Administrative Code of 1987
- renders legal services (handling of cases, rendering of opinions and reviewing and/or drafting of contracts) to all client corporations as mandated by EO 292 or the Administrative Code of 1987
- hears and arbitrates conflicts, disputes, claims and/or counterclaims between and among client corporations as mandated by P.D. 242
- enforces and implements the Property Insurance Law (R.A. 656, as amended)
- acts as corporate officers of the client corporations
- assists in administrative cases involving client corporations
- acts as member of task forces and special committees of client corporations
- acts as in-house counsel or detailed attorneys for client corporations without legal departments
- acts as detailed counsel on request even for clients with legal departments
- other special functions as may be requested by client corporations
